I recently had the pleasure of attending "Top of the Line" At the Showroom Gallery
Showroom is a small, second floor walk up, two room gallery in NYC's East Village. Its nondescript entrance sandwiched between a Chinese food restaurant and a bakery would never draw the accidental foot traffic of the dreaded New York City tourist. Instead, this oasis of urban art, is frequented by those in the know and true urban art enthusiasts.
The current show, 'Top of the Line,' features urban art veterans Futura, Cope2, Sharp, Shepard Fairey, FaFi, Silolette, Revok, Can2 and Ron English.
Opening Night was a standing room only mash of bodies. Each person trying to maneuver and bob around heads to see each piece . Though it was not hard to find stimulating and informed conversation on the work, it was hard to finish a sentence without someone requesting to get by.
I would recommend Showroom's exhibitions as a must see, but would not suggest you see them on opening night.
