Holiday Hiadous
The new year is not so new any more and art openings and viewing are on the come back.
Over the holiday season I had the pleasure of attending Holiday Party Number One at the Melanie Flood Projects viewing space as well as "The Dinner Table" at The Brooklyn Museum of Art.
Over the holiday season I had the pleasure of attending Holiday Party Number One at the Melanie Flood Projects viewing space as well as "The Dinner Table" at The Brooklyn Museum of Art.
Holiday Party Number One was lively and festive gathering of artists and art enthusiasts. Twenty artist, many of whom were showcased at MFP since its September opening, gathered to mingle with their patrons and sell books and printed matter. Revelers nibbled fresh baked cookies and sipped on delicious spiked eggnog while engaged in discussions on art and politics. Occasionally someone would stop to admire Melanie Floods large pine tree and its eclectic and avant-garde ornaments. Melanie Flood Projects, and its modern art-forward decor, is the home of New York photographer Melanie Flood. This cozy setting severed to heighten the holiday experience.
"The Dinner Party" by Judy Chicago was , for lack of a more fitting word, a fiesta. The triangular banquet table, with an open center, featured thirty nine place settings each representing a woman in history. The table sat on a platform. The platform on which 999 others names were inscribed. Each name on the platform , or heritage floor, correspondence to the woman featured in the nearest place setting. Each plate in the piece could quite easily stand on its own as a grate work of art. However the combination of these thirty-nine plates, table settings, heritage floor and staging by the BMoA was awe inspiring. This attention to detail and total experiences by the viewer was wonderful. This artistic journey of women thought out known time was mentally and visually simulating and truly requires at least an hour to peruse and absorb.
If you cant make it to the Brooklyn Museum of Art I suggest you take the virtual tour of "The Dinner Party" .
